It literally changed my life. Between Dan and his publicity and training, and Rina and her skills and Momentum classes, I've had TV appearances, radio, magazine articles, and now Grand Slam. They've created this amazing culture and community.
I can genuinely say that I felt the kindness from you both and your teams, and that you truly care about the speakers and the impact they will have. And then to be on stage for the first time and have that lady come up to me afterwards and tell me that that night I saved a life — you guys are doing great things. You're giving speakers the ability to share their stories and change people's lives and I'll be eternally grateful.
After speaking on the Speaker Slam® stage, things changed quite a lot for me. I've been on television segments, speaking on other stages, and building my business and my somatic coaching practice with clients across the country. Dan and Rina are the real deal. They care so deeply about every speaker they work with.
I got accepted to my dream TEDx location in Halifax — the only person chosen who wasn't from Halifax. That happened because of the PR Dan got me on the East Coast through Speaker Slam®. And yesterday I booked a full-fee keynote for November for the Canadian Media Awards because the president was there when I spoke at two Speaker Slam® events. I got fourth place in my semi-finals and that was the first time they saw me. Even when you lose, you win if you put in the effort around here.
The opportunity I got right off the bat was a first paid gig, which is amazing. That's what everybody wants as a speaker. Speaker Slam® is a launching pad. It gives you that belief that you belong on the stage.
Being part of the Speaker Slam® family has opened up a ton of opportunities. I'm now being seen on media across global stages, writing magazine articles. I'm officially a paid and booked speaker. Working with Dan as my publicist has gotten me gigs that I couldn't have even dreamed of. They are the Dream Team.
Because of Speaker Slam® and the first talk I gave, one performance led to an introduction to a judge, which led to an introduction to an agent. Now so many wide open doors in the speaking space are taking place because of that one introduction. One speech really can change your life.
Since being a part of Speaker Slam® I've been able to get paid speaking opportunities which I'd never had before. Dan and Rina are a wealth of knowledge in the speaker industry and are really great at making connections and introductions.
In May 2017 I got on stage for the first time and shared my story of growing up with a severe stutter. A few days after, TEDx invited me to speak in front of 500 people. Last September I got to share the stage with Arlene Dickinson at the Archangel Summit in front of 2,500 people. Speaker Slam® IS my journey.
I've been on a national stage talking about mental health with the federal government conference. I think it's only going to go higher from here. There's only more you can gain and nothing to lose. You build your skills, build an audience for yourself, and inspire others to do the same.
I won the Leadership competition and it was a transformational moment. I'm thinking about doing public speaking a lot more, keynote speaking. By challenging your comfort zones it opens up a whole world for you. It builds a level of confidence and comfort in sharing your story on stage.
The organization is oh my god, oh my god. I call you the atomic team because the organization is absolutely unlike anything I've ever seen. You don't have to worry about anything. You don't have to think about anything. It's all there for you.
